Berlin, May 16, 2023 – The German Research Data Portal for Health (FDPG<\/a>) now enables researchers to centrally access health data and biospecimens from German university medicine for scientific investigations. The portal was developed within the Medical Informatics Initiative (MII) and officially published in September 2022. Since mid-May, it is now also available to researchers who are not involved in the MII.<\/p>\n

As part of the MII, which is funded by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research, data integration centers have been established at more than 30 university medical sites throughout Germany. These facilities make patient data and biospecimens from routine care available for medical research in a privacy-compliant manner. For the first time, the FDPG represents a central point of contact to query and apply for the available data sets from the care documentation of all German university hospitals. This represents an enormous advantage for research and the healthcare system in Germany, according to Sebastian C. Semler, managing director of TMF – Technologie- und Methodenplattform f\u00fcr die vernetzte medizinische Forschung e.V. (TMF – Technology and Methods Platform for Networked Medical Research) and head of the MII coordination office, which is operated jointly with the Medical Faculty Association and the Association of University Hospitals.<\/p>\n

The German Research Data Portal for Health is jointly developed by all partners of the MII and operated by the TMF. It represents an important milestone for German medical research and will help to gain new insights to further improve healthcare in Germany.<\/p>\n
